GRAPHIC DESIGN

I worked for two years as a Marketing Assistant/Graphic Designer at Don's Photo, and just under three years as a Marketing Coordinator/Graphic Designer at Westburne Electric (both offices based in Winnipeg, MB). With both jobs, I was given plenty of creative freedom when it came to design, logo creation and taking projects from the basic seed of an idea to a finished product.

My biggest (and final) project at Don's Photo was to create advertising panels for the street-level window space located on the west-facing side of the 410 Portage Avenue location in Winnipeg. Each window space consisted of three separate sections: three small windows on the top, and a large rectangular window situated beside a large square window. I came up with the idea for the panels after undertaking a brainstorming session with the store manager. The project was 95% completed before my last day at Don's Photo, so I did not take part in the final details before it was officially installed. Prior to this, I also designed the window panels for the Don's Photo store in Regina, SK.

LOGO DESIGN & BRANDING

When I first started working at Don's Photo and Westburne, I had to manually convert the corporate logos from raster graphics into vector graphics. I also assembled libraries of vector advertising logos (which did not exist before in either company's Marketing Department), paving the way for graphic designers who came into the job at both companies after I left.

At Don's Photo, I did not radically alter the look of the logo design (it was originally designed by The Faqtory), but I did manage to update it. As a vector logo, I was able to change/update the locations as needed, and I was also able to incorporate the usage of a branding slogan, a concept that Don's Photo still uses.

While at Westburne, I created a logo for the header of the company's quarterly flyer. Borrowing the name from the company's Ontario Division flyer, "Circuit", I fashioned a logo that fit in with the electrical industry. That logo, and my flyer design, is still in use at Westburne.

The third logo is something that I designed for my own use. The three visible sides of the cube display the initials of my name (Aaron Mark Fefchak). The logo appears on all of my work, and made its "official" debut on this website.

BROCHURES & PROMOTION PACKAGING

The "Exceptional Service Starter Kit" (aka ESSK) was a promotion launched by Don's Photo, giving the company a competitive edge when it came to camera sales. This complimentary package was given to customers after they purchased a camera from Don's Photo. Included in the package were brochures outlining the various services available at Don's Photo, coupons for photofinishing and photo equipment/supplies, a CD containing Don's Photo online printing software and a loyalty card. I was responsible for the design and creation of all brochures, coupons and the ESSK jewelcase.

MISCELLANEOUS ADVERTISING

The collection of advertisements shown below are examples of the work that I produced for Don's Photo and Westburne. The top four thumbnails are single sheet advertisements for Don's Photo. The first two thumbnails in the second row are single sheet advertisements for Westburne. The third and fourth thumbnails are multi-page flyers that I created for Westburne. The logos and layout that I designed are still being used today.
